BRE 439 - Irrigation Principles and Practice

Course Description


Survey of irrigation systems. system configurations, factors that influence irrigation effieciency, crop water requirements, energy requirements, pumps, irrigation scheduling. For non-engineers. Lec/Lab COREQ: Pre-calculus

Course Objectives


The student, upon completion of this course, should be able to:

  • calculate crop water requirements and determine required irrigation system capacity
  • determine allowable irrigation intervals
  • estimate economically optimal levels of water use
  • understand application uniformity and irrigation adequacy and their relationship to irrigation efficiency
  • develop preliminary designs for standard irrigation systems
  • understand operation of pumps and motors
  • utilize the principles and technology of scientific irrigation scheduling
