Current Research Projects

A New Pesticide Evaluation and Selection Tool for Agriculture helps users faced with the daunting task of pesticide selection in the context of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The project goal is to mitigate agricultural impacts on soil, water and air quality, avian and aquatic life, beneficial organisms, and worker and consumer health and safety by improving selection of pest management options and access to information on mitigation impacts. A number of human and ecological risk indices, including species sensitivity distributions (SSD) are involved. [With Paul Jepson, IPPC, and others.]

Pesticide fate and transfer modeling in surface waters of Sub-Sahelian West Africa supports human, ecological, and agricultural risk assessment. Our team has built capacity in the region for trace chemical analysis and surveys of local populations. Multi-scale modeling is used to fill data gaps and investigate system dynamics. [With Paul Jepson, IPPC, and others.]

Internet based tool for landowners assesses potential for participation in Ecosystem Services Markets; focusing on stream temperature TMDLs in Oregon. [With John Lambrinos, Horticulture, and others.]

Conceptual Model Explorer/Workflow Explorer is a web based Intelligent Information System for the construction and sharing of conceptual and geo-processing models. The Explorer is part of a larger system that connects to ontology enhanced search engines and advanced visualization. Applications to date created by U.S. and Mexican collaborators treat sea-grass and mangrove ecosystems in the Gulf of Mexico. [With Battelle, UAH, and NASA.]
