Frequently Asked Questions

All

  • How do I make a PDF file from a Word (or other) Document?  If you are using STAK drives, you can take advantage of COE Support for PDF generation.  See http://engr.oregonstate.edu/computing/faqs/pdfprint.html for more information.  If you are not using STAK, you need to have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer.  We have Acrobat installed on the Media Computer in the Main Office that you can use.

  • Where can I get information about software under OSU site license?  See http://tss.oregonstate.edu/softdist/ for information and software under site license.

  • How do I access a BEE network printer?  1) Select "Printers and Faxes" from Windows's Start menu, 2) Select "Add Printer" to bring up the Add Printer Wizard, 3) Select "A Network Printer" when asked whether the printer is local or network-based, 4) Select "Connect to this printer", leaving the name blank, 5) Select "BIOENGINEERING/Pandora" for a list of printers available, and 6) select the printer you want to install.  Note that these are accessible from the campus network only.
Alternatively, you can access all the Bioengineering printers through the Window Start Menu:   Select Start->Search->-Printers, Computers...->Printer on a network->In:bioe->Find Now.  Select the desired printer from the list.
Note that these methods will ONLY work is you're logged in to the Bioengineering network

  • How do I make posters using the Large Format printer?  The Bioengineering Department has an HP 5000 large-format poster printer.  The easiest way to create a poster with this printer is with PowerPoint.  The steps (for a 33"x44" poster" are as follows:

    1. Install the "BRE Centerfold" printer (see "How do I access a Bioengineering network printer" above) if you haven't already installed this printer.

    2. In PowerPoint, set the page size to "Custom", with a 44"x34" page size using the File/Page Setup menu options.  Set the Orientation to portrait or landscape as needed.

    3. Prepare your slide content.

    4. When you are ready to print you final copy of your poster, use PowerPoint's File/Print menu to bring up the "Print" dialog box.  Select the \\Pandora\BRE Centerfold" printer, and then click the "Properties" button to set up the printer.  On the "Basic Setup" tab, set the "Paper Size" to "ANSI E - 34x44", and other parameters as desired.

    5. You are now ready to print.  Note that other sizes are possible, but that the printer is limited to a maximum width of 34".
