The goal of computing support within the Biological and Ecological Engineering Department is to provide robust access to computing resources within the department and across campus. Computing resources are provided at three levels; within the department with the department computer administrator (DCA), at the College of Engineering, through OSU computing support. If you are having problems with your computer or network connection, you should look through the frequently asked questions below, OSU's computer help documents, or go to College of Engineering IT . If you don't see the answer to your problem, you can contact BEE computer support for assistance.
Computer Setup for ALL BEE Computers
Any computer that is connected to the departmental network is required to conform to certain standards. These standards reflect needs for security, access, and any computer that does not conform to these standards will be disconnected from the network.
- You must have the BEE Network Administrator registered and set up your machine.
- You must have approved antivirus running and configured correctly. The DCA can help with this.
Accounts
All standard BEE computers are accessed via users ONID accounts. Most are able to take the ONID username without prefix or postfix. But ONID\username or username@oregonstate.edu should work as well. If you cannot log into a system, check with the DCA as BEE users must be added to certain user groups for access to the systems as well as the printers and you may have been missed.
Drive Space
BEE students have shared drive space that they can map to their PCs that also appears on Engineering lab computers and accessible via Citrix. More information is at Engineering File Sharing. Faculty, staff, and grad students have file space at \\pandora.bee.oregonstate.edu\User\username. This link will appear on a short cut called “Pandora File Share” when you log into BEE windows systems. Space is limited here so be conscientious of that when using this space. Finally, there is Box which has unlimited space and available to all students, faculty and staff. You can learn more about Box here.
Your Own Web Page(s)
You can create a personal web page on your Engineering file share. To do this, see the College of Engineering support pages at computing.
Printing
When you log onto a BEE computer, you should have access to nearby printers. Other printers can be added through the bee-print-srv.bee.oregonstate.edu print server. The DCA can help with this. You can also add the printers to your personal laptops via the print server if you are a BEE student, faculty, or staff member.
Licensed Software Available for Your Systems
OSU has several site licenses for various software packages. You can find the lists sponsored via COE here, and the OSU site licensed software packages here.
INstalling Software on BEE LOUNGE Computers
You will not be able to install software on a BEE computer without authorization of the BEE network administrator. If you have legitimate need for the software on that system, contact Randy Thorp to install the software.
BEE Electronic Mailing Lists
BEE maintains mailing lists for students and faculty. Undergraduate Students: the mailing list for Ecological Engineering students is maintained automatically by registration records. Graduate Students: To subscribe yourself to the graduate student list, go to https://secure.engr.oregonstate.edu/mailman/listinfo/bee-grad. You may only use an ONID or ENGR email address for this list. To send mail to the list of subscribed BEE graduate students, send mail to: bee-grad@ENGR.ORST.EDU.
Access to the Wireless Network
Instructions on accessing OSU's Wireless Network are available.

Using the BEE Color Printer and Large Format Printer
Student access to the BEE Color Laser Printer is available via the “Guest” computer in Gilmore 116. There is a charge of $.10 a page for personal printing.access to the BEE Color Laser Printer is available if authorized by your faculty advisor. An authorization form is available.
UPDATE: Currently the Large Format printer is currently down and cannot be used to create posters (08/01/19)
In order to create a poster you will need to either:
- Utilize Student Multimedia Services. Further details can be found here.
- Utilize the College of Engineering's IT and Computing Support Services. In your email, state that you (1) are a College of Engineering student in the (2) Biological & Ecological Engineering department. Further details can be found here.
Once the printer has been repaired, the above will be deleted and the following will apply.
The Large Format printer can be used for the creation of posters for professional presentations. It is accessible through the "Guest" computer located in 116 Gilmore Hall.
Students requesting that the BEE Office print their poster must follow these instructions:
- Poster requests must be sent to Jennifer (Jennifer.Cohen@oregonstate.edu) at least 1.5 business days prior to your needed pick-up time.
- Posters must be a PDF file.
- Poster size must be 36 inches by 48 inches. The large format printer will not print to the edge, so be sure to leave room for the print margin.
- Include information about what the poster will be used for (presentation at a conference, class project, etc.) in your print request.
