Congratulations to Professor Ganti Murthy's lab group that includes himself and BEE Grad Students, Bill Hohenschuh, Ankita Juneja and Deepak Kumar, for being selected during Phase I of the EPA's People, Prosperity and the Planet program.
According to the EPA - "The P3 Award competition is a two-phase team contest. For the first phase, interdisciplinary student teams competed for up to $15,000 in grants."
Dr. Murthy's team will use the grant they won during Phase I to research and develop their design project, "Biosorption of Dyes from Textile Industry Effluents Using Macroalgae" and present their project report and a Phase II proposal in Washington DC in the Spring for a chance to win an award and grant funding up to $90k to further the project design, implement it in the field, and move it to the marketplace.
"Judging takes place at the annual National Sustanable Design Expo on the National Mall. Scores form the reports, proposals and the presentations on the Mall are combined into a final overall score for each P3 team. Based on these scores, the AAAS judges recommend to EPA which teams should received the EPA P3 Award and the opportunity for Phase II funding"
This is a phenomenal opportunity for our students - Congratulations and good luck in the Spring!
