Floyid Nicolas

Dr. Floyid Nicolas is an Assistant Professor in Agricultural Water Management and Hydrology. Dr. Floyid is based at the Central Oregon Agricultural Research & Extension Center (COAREC) in Madras. His research focuses on sustainable water management in agricultural systems, integrating hydrological modeling, crop modeling, remote sensing, machine learning, and GIS to address challenges such as salinity, nutrient leaching, and climate change adaptation. Before joining Oregon State University, Dr. Nicolas worked as a Project Engineer at Luhdorff & Scalmanini Consulting Engineers (LSCE), where he contributed to groundwater management zones nitrate leaching characterization and cover crop influence assessment on runoff.

His interdisciplinary approach aims to enhance irrigation efficiency, evapotranspiration estimates, crop production, groundwater sustainability and quality through the development of comprehensive modeling frameworks and decision-support tools to support farmers and policymakers in making data-driven management decisions. His work spans multiple scales, from lab (greenhouse experiments), field-level to regional water basins, with the goal of enhancing sustainability and resilience in agricultural landscapes.

Dr. Nicolas holds a Ph.D. in Biological Systems Engineering from the University of California, Davis, an M.S. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from the University of Florida, and a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering from Université d’État d’Haïti. Beyond research, he is committed to education and outreach, mentoring students and collaborating with stakeholders to develop practical solutions for sustainable water management in agriculture.
