Course Description

A study of the transport processes of fluid flow, heat transfer and mass transfer applied to biological organisms and ecological systems. PREREQS: BEE 320

Course Objectives

  • Analysis of fundamental concepts and governing equations for physical processes such as heat transfer, fluid flow and mass transfer applied to biological organisms and ecological systems.

  • Develop conceptualization and analytical skills to conduct analysis of ecological systems.
  • Develop skills to conduct rigorous engineering analysis and present results in a clear and concise manner.
  • Students are expected to apply advanced mathematical techniques, such as differential equations, to the concepts of heat and mass transfer.  Students will also apply other engineering approaches, such as the concept of the control volume, for system analysis.
  • Students are expected to be able to predict the outcome in terms of state, temperature, volume and pressure of heat and mass transfer systems.  Students wiull be able to conceptualize and carry out preliminary design needed to produce a specified outcome in terms of temperature, volume and pressure in a heat and mass transfer system.
